David Kim

Director of Management and Operations Consulting
David Kim has 20 years of extensive experience in the healthcare industry with over 12 years in healthcare management consulting. His work has included assisting hospitals and healthcare systems with financial turnarounds, post-merger integration, benchmarking and performance improvement, cost reduction, productivity systems development, and process redesign and implementation.
In 2010, Mr. Kim joined HFS as Manager of the Management & Operations practice. In early 2012 he was promoted to Managing Director of the practice following the retirement of the previous director, Richard Parsons.
Mr. Kim has a strong combination of operations and strategy experience across both the payer and provider settings. He brings deep analytical skills and operations consulting experience developed during his 12-plus years working as a senior-level consultant for several top healthcare consulting firms. He has also worked in strategic planning for a major integrated delivery system and at a non-profit community hospital.
At HFS, Mr. Kim has played a key role in developing new products, including HFS’s proprietary OSHPD data compilation and benchmarking tool. He has also led the development of a proven approach for implementing a performance improvement initiative for our clients, using a combination of analytic and hypothesis-based problem solving frameworks to quickly develop and implement ideas to increase productivity and lower costs.
Prior to joining HFS, Mr. Kim held multiple management and director-level positions in the healthcare industry at, among others, APM Management Consultants, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, Huron Consulting Group and Kaiser Foundation Health Plans. He has also worked in hospital settings at Texas Health Resources and St. Mary’s Medical Center (Dignity Health).
Mr. Kim holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University.
